Does hygge make people happy?

Candle light is often used when it´s time to hygge. these days the Danish expression hygge is getting well known around the world. But what does it mean for the Danish people and their happiness? Let me start by saying that asking a Dane to explain what hygge is, is the same as asking a Korean to explain what aegyo is. It's not impossible to answer but it will be that persons definition of it. You can read a lot of books and articles from around the world but you will never find an exact definition. Why? Because the definition changes from each person's heart and personality. The best general definition that I have found is not from a book, article or a dictionary. It was on the side of a Mathilde cocoa milk bottle. The statement goes: We Danes has always grown hyggen. But what it the soul of hygge really? Hygge is to seize the moment and enjoy it together with friends or just by yourself.... The reason why I like this one is that you can apply it to yourself whenever you are alone or with other people and not only your friends. Since I have been living alone from the age of 18 I had to learn what I like, enjoy and what helps me relax when I'm alone or simply without any "adults" nearby. So if you add all of these information's about hygge together do you think it has an affection on the Danes being the happiest people in the world? I will have to say yes and no. For us Danes hygge is just a word like afslappet (relaxed) and træt (tired). We just use it to describe how we feel inside. If we say that we need to hygge or that it could be nice to do something hyggeligt then it's just a cry out that we are not comfortable within our self and we need to detach from the world. Just like when a baby is crying to communicate. The part of me that will say yes is that we are so good at hygge. It's something we grew up with. If we didn't learn from our family then we learned it from our friends. It has become a need inside of us just like hunger and thrust. We listen to our body and gives it what it needs. denying our body hygge with be the same as denying it to go to the bathroom. When the body can't get what it needs it builds up pain and stress. Danes are not the only people that hygger everyday. We just put words on our feelings and remember how important it is. It's our tradition and in our blood. I believe that putting words on your feelings will take you a long way. By taking a small amount of time everyday and doing something that makes you comfortable or working with your feelings (which I know is not always fun) can bring you a long way. Just remember you don't have to do it alone. The Danes doesn't so why should you? The Danes love to have a campfire with friends and family and the open sky.
